EDTE 280: Learning to Learn Online
Fall 2011
Online Pedagogy introduces students to the procedures and structure of the Master of Arts Degree in Education: Educational Technology. The course emphasizes team building and group cohesion. Students master the tools used in the delivery of the entire program, prepare for the online learning experience, develop perspectives of online learning and teaching, and learn about the iMET portfolios.

EDTE 281: Tools and Curriculum
Fall 2011
"Tools and the Curriculum" seamlessly blends basic technological applications with established areas of the curriculum. Students will explore software applications and technology tools as integrated facets of well-established teaching strategies. Learning and applying strategies to new and unique problem-solving situations is expected. In addition, participants in this cluster will use a number of communication procedures that enhance tool use including e-mail, online learning and research, and multimedia. In the process, students evaluate and synthesize theories of learning best suited to developing new instructional strategies.

EDTE 286: Special Topics in Education
Spring 2012
Development and innovations in modern technology, especially as related to teaching and learning. Composition will vary from semester to semester and over time. However, it will consistently utilize cutting-edge technology to support teaching and learning. Understanding and creating digital stories with digital video is the focus of this course. Conceptual understanding of digital storytelling will first be developed from reading and discussing asynchronously in text blog entries. Knowledge and skills to create and publish digital video will be developed incrementally through hands-on activities, tutorials and demonstrations culminating in a final digital story production. Digital video productions will range from approximately 2 - 10 minutes in length.

EDTE 250i: Educational Research and Proposal Writing

This course examines the fundamentals of educational research, including qualitative and quantitative methods in the development of reliable knowledge in the field of education.
In iMET, this course is taken in conjunction with EDTE 280 - Fundamentals of Online Pedagogy and EDTE 281 - Tools and the Curriculum. Using what they are learning about technology tools and the curriculum in EDTE 280 and 281, and based upon the students' areas of interest, students participating in this section of EDTE 250 will develop an action research proposal for a study of the impact combining a curricular strategy with a technology tool or tools in their learning environment.

Develops techniques for presenting and teaching thinking skills and problem solving in schools. Students research social and cultural problems as well as local and curricular problems and apply teaching strategies that develop higher-order thinking processes. Inquiry and problem-based strategies are used and integrated with technological applications. Students design Web-based units that focus on logic as well as creative thinking that lead toward a solution to curricular or social and cultural problems.

EDTE 283: Staff Development and Presentation Applications

The course explores the necessary elements that bring integrated technology to staff members. Students will use a variety of delivery methods for staff development that could include multimedia, the web, and hands-on integrated curricular activities teachers or other educators can use immediately with available technology. The course also includes scaffolding for completion of culminating experience Action Research projects.

EDTE 284: Problem Solving and Project Development

Students will focus on integrating curriculum, equity, and/or staff development strands into an overall educational technology implementation strategy. Complex problem-solving techniques, research, distributed learning, methodology, and evaluation will be emphasized.

This is an advanced study of the economic, social, historical, philosophical issues related to the schools, students, and the society. In the course, we address the implications of theories and research concerning the history of education and schools, the nature of learning, values, democratic education, pluralism, equal opportunity, and barriers to the above. The course will examine the current status of California public schools, and the relationship between these schools and the students, especially with regards to technology.
